CinéDOC-School – civic education in schools through documentary films

In collaboration with our longterm partner Noosfera Foundation in Tbilisi, we are introducing a teacher training program in Georgia. This initiative will encompass at least sixty schools all over Georgia, focusing on training educators to screen and lead discussions on documentary films targeting young audiences, emphasizing themes of democracy, human rights, and freedom of expression.

The primary goal of the project is to enhance the professional capabilities of teachers, crucial catalysts for change, particularly in rural, mountainous, urban, and post-industrial regions affected by unemployment. While our main focus is on civic education teachers, we also welcome participation from other teaching professionals interested in incorporating documentary films into their curriculum.

Recognized as an invaluable resource for schools, documentary films not only foster critical thinking but also possess the potential to deeply engage and inspire students.

The project includes several workshops for teachers in Georgia and a study visit for selected teachers to Malmö during spring 2024. We will also build an online plattform with a wide selection of films for the teachers to choose from. The longterm goal is to create a network of teachers who will continue to inspire and  help mentoring each other.

The project is supported by the Swedish Institute and is going on from August 2023 to July 2025.
